There were not many beautiful vista’s but the trails were so peaceful. Often times the trail would follow a babbling little creek. The woods were open and fall leaves covered the ground. Old stone fences would go for miles, stirring the imagination. I wondered who built them and why? Were they old farms? Most farms have stone around the property lines from removing rocks from the field every year.

I usually had the trail to myself. I was not looking forward to a city that size. After much thought I decided to rent a car and skip the worst of it. I actually ended up driving the whole way back to Cumberland MD. My Brother and his wife are going to be on the C&O Canal next week and I thought it would be fun to visit them. They rented one of the historical lock houses and I did not want to miss an opportunity to stay overnight in one. I think the canal lock houses are really cool. I haven’t seen my Mom and Dad since July and I wanted to visit them for a few days as well. And to be honest I am missing Dan &Emily and Mom&Dad. I love my trip and enjoy every day but it can get a little lonely at times. So any way I’m in Cumberland Maryland and am going to be biking the C&O for the next few days. When I start back on my trip I’m not sure if I will go back to New York or just continue south from home. The East Coast Greenway isn’t quite what I expected. I think with a map I could plan a route that would be more enjoyable to me.

If Maine was the prettiest state then I think Connecticut gets the serenity award.
