The past few days have been pretty low mileage. Only around 35. Mostly we have been on rail trails and have been enjoying ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On one section I met Ken. An 82 year old man who was out for a 80 mile ride on his recumbent. He had ridden across the country when he was 58. He completed his coast to coast tour in just 28 days averaging 120 miles a day! That’s impressive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Muskegon the bike trail goes right by a retired navy ship. US 393 LST. It has been turned into a museum. Since it was about break time we thought we would check it out. After entering we were told it would cost $20. That was too much for us to spend so we left. And we were thankful we did! Just as we were getting our bikes from the bike rack the lawn sprinklers came on. One was aimed directly at the rack. We laughed at our good fortune. Had the cost been within our budget our bikes would of got soaked!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday night we camped at the Trailways campground in the town of Montague. The hiker\/biker sites didn’t have hammock trees so we had to use our tent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We cooked pasta with mushrooms and clam sauce for dinner <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Montague is home to the world’s largest weathervane. This is often disputed and seems to be a hot topic for some of the locals. In Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada there is a retired Douglas DC 3 airplane that has been put on a swiveling pedestal and it too turns to face the wind. That is a lot bigger. But technically is it a weathervane? In Montague Michigan the correct answer is no it is not! At 48 feet tall, 4,300 pounds and a 14 foot replica of a lumber schooner on top, it’s still impressive even if it isn’t the biggest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On one of the trails we went by a small amusement park. One of the rides was an old wooden roller coaster. It was pretty close to the trail and was fun to watch go by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before we got to John Gurney we stopped at a little grocery store. We bought a 2 pound pork loin. It was $2.49 a pound which seemed like a good deal. At camp I cut half of it into chops and saved the other half for the next day’s dinner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I fried the chops while Rose made mashed potatoes and gravy. We were both hungry. Dinner was delicious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was raining when we woke up this morning. Not a hard rain but a nice steady shower. I kept putting off getting up. Rain on my hammock always sounds so relaxing I kept going back to sleep. After looking at the weather we decided to stay here another night. So today was a really peaceful relaxing day. It rained most the day but that was ok. We put our extra rainfly up over the picnic table so we had a dry place to cook, drink coffee and eat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dinner was cous cous and pork tacos. The Al Pastor sauce mix was from the discount grocery store. It was in the box my mom mailed us. It was really good. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
