I was up and packed, waiting for daylight. I had around 45 miles to get to Woodsville where the Across New Hampshire Adventure Trail begins. It is 83 miles long and travels from the Connecticut River across New Hampshire and ends in Bethel Maine. I had been looking forward to the xnhat for weeks and was in a hurry to get on it.

A good tailwind helped me along and around 1:30 I said goodbye to the Connecticut River and turned onto the xnhat. I had been following the river since Brattleboro I think. I was happy to get on a bike trail. It seems like I had been on roads for quite a while. The trail was rough. It was large gravel that was not packed in. Also the first 15 miles are open to four wheelers and dirt bikes and was tore up from that a bit.

It was still better then dealing with traffic though. I was really glad I had got my bike welded yesterday. I don’t think I would of rode it on this rough of trail the way it was. Speaking of that heres a picture of the little part the welder brought to me on the road.

The tubing on bike racks are all different diameters these bushings go over the tubing and the pannier latches over this part. They are supposed to stay inside the latching mechanism of the pannier but this one is broke and won’t stay in. I will glue it if i ever remember to buy super glue. I still can’t believe he took the time to run this little piece of plastic to me. He couldn’t of known how important it is. I would of had to wrap duct tape around the rack to build it up to the correct diameter without it.
Anyway even though the trail was rough I was enjoying it and the beautiful scenery.

In the little town of Bath there was a pretty cool covered bride. I stopped for a few minutes and met people from who were visiting from Percyville,, Virginia. They where a bit surprised when I told them I knew where that was and I had been there to bike the Old Dominion Rail Trail. That trail actually runs through there back yard they said.

I stopped at a gas station to fill my water bottles and a can of Moxie soda caught my eye. I knew I was in the North when I saw that. The last time I had a can of it was 15 years ago when I hiked the A.T. in this area. I had to buy a can. I stopped on a bridge over the ammonoosuc river to enjoy drink the can of Moxie. In those fifteen years they did not change the recipe. Still aweful. Its similar to drinking liquid black liquorice mixed with dr pepper and tomato juice. It takes a lot of moxie to drink a whole can.

Matthew i will pass on the moxie none for me thanks!
