Kitty Hawk

I was packed and ready to go just a little after sunrise this morning. It was a beautiful sunrise.

I love the rest areas that are along the roads. I stopped and had bread and cheese. And of course iced coffee. I got the iced coffee when I stopped for water at one of the ubiquitous 7-11s. A man pumping gas asked where I was from and surprisingly he was from PA as well and had been through the tiny town of Tionesta many times. Sometimes it seems like a small world.

It was much warmer then the 40s and 50s that I have grown accustomed to. It was 73 at 2pm. I forgot what it felt like to sweat profusely. It was a good day but uneventful. I rode 43 miles.

For dinner I stopped at a little seafood resturant and from the coffee fund bought a dozen crabs for dinner. I splurged on dinner and useing the coffee fund money meant I did not have to count it in my budget. Which is a good thing because my dinner was $44 dollars. Thanks every body for an awesome dinner! The diner was a real locals spot. Only two tables and a counter to sit at. Family pictures lined the wall. Photos of smiling children on boats holding up blue crabs or individuals smiling proudly next to there first boat. The waitress greeted the customers by name. When I placed my order she asked if I was a local. I hesitantly said no im not. I wondered if my bill had just doubled. Haha. Then she said I didn’t think you were but I saw you ride up on a bicycle. Nobody rides a bike very far. I replied that I had and that I had ridden 4280 miles so far. Instead of the questions I was expecting she said she wouldn’t even ride a bike across town. It was nearly dark when I left the resturant. I stopped for the night shortly after eating. There is a bike path along the Kitty Hawk Bay that has lots of opportunities to stealth camp.
