Jekyll Island.

I’m camped on Jekyll Island tonight. I was afraid it was going to be too touristy but it’s not. They have a huge holiday light display going on. Signs say there is 1 million lights but I doubt any one really counted them. All the live oaks on both sides of the road and over the road are done up with all kinds of lights and decorations. I bet it’s beautiful at night. Not beautiful enough for me to ride the 2 miles back to go see them though. I’m happy enough in my hammock!

Route 17 through Georgia has been pretty good. Not too much traffic and the road has had a shoulder. I crossed the Intracoastal Waterway twice today. I should of kept track of how many times I crossed it. The view from both bridges was great.

Back in August, on the Erie Canal in New York, I camped with two women. Rose and Kim. I have stayed in touch with Rose. She is going to ride with me for a while when I get to her home state of Florida. I should be there in a few more days. Im looking forward to it. Also she is bringing me a tent. I’m embarrassed to admit I lost my tent poles. Along the road I had spread my tent and rainfly out to dry after packing it away wet and I must of left them there. Or on Thanksgiving when I went shopping I might of left them on the ice chest when I was putting away my food. I contacted the company, Big Agness to purchase a replacement set but they had none available at this time. So I bought a Marmot 2 person tent on clearance from Backcountry and had it overnight mailed to Rose’s house. It hasn’t really been a problem since I have my hammock still.

I hit the 5000 mile mark today. My tires are really worn out but I hope to make them last until I fly home for Christmas. I’m going to fly from St Petersburg Florida. I’ll leave my bike at a warm shower host then mail them my replacement tires. I’ll put them on when I get back to Florida after Christmas.
