We were on the road by 8:30. Our goal for the day was a Warmshower host at Geneva On The Lake nearly 50 miles away. The morning was cool and partly cloudy with out any wind. Perfect! We made good time most of the morning and tried to keep our breaks to a minimum. We stopped every ten miles to eat and drink plenty of water. One break was at the Ohio line.

The little bit of sunshine we had was replaced with dark clouds. About 7 miles from our destination it started pouring. Surprisingly, the wind died down when the rain started and the last 7 miles flew by. I had stayed at this Warmshower host last year in August when I was riding North to Maine. Pat and Carol were excellent host and I was looking forward to seeing them again. Their summer cottage is right on the lake and last time I hung my hammock on the deck about 25 feet from the waters edge. I had really liked the town of Geneva On The Lake. It was very quiet and friendly. This time though, Pat and Carol couldn’t be there but had left us directions on where to find the keys. That was unbelievably kind and generous of them. We had the whole lake house to ourselves! I wish they could of been there though, I would of liked to of seen them again and I know Rose would of liked to of met them. Any way I had told Rose all about the peacefulness and tranquility of the whole town and we were looking forward to it. At the top of a little hill is an arch over the road that says welcome to Geneva On The Lake. Under the arch was a banner. I squinted into the driving rain trying to see if I was really reading it correctly. Yep, I was. The banner read Welcome Hell’s Angel’s! With a motorcycle rally going on, I wasn’t sure if we would experience the peacefulness I had on my first visit! The village isn’t very big and there is only one road in and out.

We got to the cottage with out any trouble. Already drenched from the rain and filthy from the spray off of car tires,we made a beeline for the lake and jumped in. It was fun swimming in the rain. The rain quit while we were still swimming and the sun started to break through the clouds. Just enough sun for a beautiful sunset

We were tired and hungry. Without to much guilt for going over our budget, we ordered pizza and cheesy bread to be delivered.
By 9 o’clock most every one had parked their bikes and town had quieted down.

After doing laundry and putting all our stuff on charge we went to bed. Our rear lights and cell phones get charged every night. I also have a speedometer that I charge every day. Both of us have dynamo hubs that charge a battery pack as we ride. Usually that’s what we use to recharge everything. But when we have power we plug in all that we have and top off our battery packs.

In the morning we packed up around 9. First stop was Madsen Bakery. There donuts are famous around the lake. With good reason! They were delicious.

I read that Madsen Bakery had been in the same spot since 1936. When we stopped to take pictures I met a group of ladies out for their morning walk. Her first job and both her children’s first jobs was folding boxes at the Bakery.
Matthew thats hilarious road sign sounds delicious! Enjoy the adventure!
You got another beautiful sunset!
