On the road again

I rode with Kathleen back to Cape Cod. She had picked me up near Portland Maine. The East coast greenway goes from Portland to Boston. According to Google, thats about 140 miles. In Boston there is a ferry that takes you to Provincetown. I skipped those 140 miles and the ferry. I love boats and water so the ferry would of been cool but also it would of cost $72 dollars which is a lot of money. Maine was my favorite state so far, however biking on the coast was not enjoyable. Because it being the time of year to see the leaves, traffic was awful. Also it seamed to rain every day. I am very grateful for the ride and happy to get into Massachusetts were there is more bike paths and sunny skies.

Including my trip in May I have been 3480 miles

It was a nice break and I enjoyed my visit but the road was calling and had been for a couple days. I was antsy to start riding again. Yesterday without gear I explored Provincetown and rode the national seashore bike trail and the cape cod rail trail. It was beautiful but it felt weird not haveing my panniers with me. I would spot a likely stealth campsites then remember I was being picked up to spend one more night at Kathleen’s. Somehow not having my gear was unsettling and felt wrong and that nagging feeling of having forgotten something stayed with me all day. It sure made the hills easier though!

Cape Cod was really neat. I could of spent several more days there. Provincetown reminded me of Key West, Florida but without the tourism and the party atmosphere.

I was in New Bedford last night, camping at a w.s. host. I even had electricity right to my tent! They are really cool people.

Tony and Niki biked across the country last year and next year they may hike the A.T. Tony is an actor among other things and has played in some movies with Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds and a few other big names that I cant remember. For dinner they bought me a large pizza. It was so good! I ate all but two slices. New Bedford has a large Portuguese population. So I had lingucia, banana peppers and beef on it. I saw lingucia advertised at a grocery store and had to Google it. I was surprised i never heard of it. I have even read books on charcuterie. It it a Portuguese pork sausage. Its good.

Tony hooked me up with several days of snacks!

Tony and Niki, you guys are the best! Thank you so much!

I left there house right around 8 am. West Warwick is where I am today there is a rail trail and I’m stealthed camped on it.

Around 1 pm I got to Rhode Island my 8th state I think.

On the east bay bike path I met Dave. He had done some touring around New England. We rode together for a few miles. He was really nice and very encouraging to talk to. Then as I was leaving he gave me a $10 bill and said to buy a big burger with it. He didn’t even know about my $10 a day challenge! Just a super nice man!

Thank you Dave! Hope you catch a record fish!

Also just to clarify today is October 8th. I tried to post yesterday but didn’t have enough service. So this post includes a couple days.
